Channel 4 today announces the return of Grand Designs and Grand Designs: House of the Year airing this Autumn, produced by Naked West, a Fremantle Label. The recommissions follow the success of the previous series, with both titles averaging over one million viewers across all viewing.
The iconic and much-loved house building and design show, Grand Designs, returns with four extraordinary new builds and two long-awaited revisits, spanning across the United Kingdom. At the helm of it all is Kevin McCloud, who, 27 years on, is still never afraid to roll up his sleeves and get stuck in to help bring someone's dream home to life. This series embraces bold ideas and innovation, showcasing pioneering construction methods and ambitious architecture whilst never losing sight of the people behind them.
Grand Designs: House of the Year will follow the new series of Grand Designs later in the year, with hosts Kevin McCloud, Damion Burrows and Natasha Huq opening the doors to a handpicked selection of the UK’s most remarkable homes, all chosen from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) award-winning regional winners. Across the series, viewers will discover an extraordinary mix of bold designs, ingenious craftmanship and inspiring architecture, while the hosts reveal which homes have secured a place on RIBA’s coveted shortlist, before the winner of RIBA House of the Year is announced in the final episode.
Kevin McCloud, Host of Grand Designs and Grand Designs: House of the Year, says: "It is always a joy to get a series of Grand Designs complete and ready for broadcast - especially when it can run alongside its sister series, House of the Year. Together they celebrate the very best in British architecture and remind me of the extraordinary imaginative and resilient potential of human beings. This year is no exception: there are some astonishing stories and homes to discover."
John Comerford, interim MD of Naked, a Fremantle label, and Executive Producer, adds: "We are incredibly proud to bring both Grand Designs and Grand Designs: House of the Year back to Channel 4. Together they showcase an extraordinary breadth of British architecture, seen in both ambitious self builds and in award-winning state of the art new homes. We are delighted that viewers can once again experience the remarkable people and places at the heart of both series."
